About the Show The Bachelor is an original one-hour primetime reality television series that gives one lucky man and 25 lucky women the unique opportunity to find true love. After extensive nationwide searches, one of America's most eligible is revealed as the next Bachelor. He will begin this search in earnest when introduced to 25 attractive, successful and talented women from all walks of life. Although, at this point, they had never met the Bachelor, these women were given an opportunity to learn about him beforehand and even see photos. The Bachelor will get to know these 25 women via a series of social gatherings and exotic, romantic dates — in groups of five with some, and individually with others. He will introduce some of the women to his closest friends and family, and will visit their hometowns and meet their parents in an effort to determine the woman with whom he is most compatible. The Bachelor follows a gradual process of elimination, as he goes from the 25 whom he meets initially, then narrows it to 15 by presenting them with a single, red rose. He will then decide on 10, then six, four, three, two and, ultimately, on the one woman who captures his heart. However, at any point along the way, should a woman decide that she is no longer interested in him, she may reject his invitation to continue dating. The Bachelor provides an in-depth, behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lives of each participant involved in this unique dating process. At the end of the journey, this gentleman will have had an unforgettable experience, made new friendships and quite possibly found true love. But the big question is: After all of this, if he pops the question, will she accept? Chris Harrison guides this romantic journey — serving as friend and confidant, as the Bachelor and the women learn more about each other. Having found true love himself with a college sweetheart who is now his wife, Harrison is in a unique position to offer sound advice during this process. The Host: Chris Harrison Chris Harrison began his television career by covering local sports in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Dallas, Texas native went to Oklahoma City University on a soccer scholarship and then made the natural transition to sportscasting with a local station. During his six years there, he worked his way up the ranks from part-time sportscaster to weekend sportscaster. He also had he opportunity to cover hard news stories, including the 1995 tragedy at the Federal Building, an event which profoundly affected his perspective on life and career. A visit to L.A. for an audition for a horseracing network led to a permanent move. Three years later he still hosts a daily two-hour show, alongside racing experts on the cable station TVG, which shared programming with FOX Sports Net. Harrison landed the job of host for HGTV's popular primetime series, Designers' Challenge, in 1999, and signed a deal to continue for a third season on that network's highest rated program. In 2001 he became host of The Bachelor. He hosted a full season (65 episodes) of Mall Masters, which was done at Minnesota's Mall of America. He has played a reporter in several feature films and television series, including The Practice, Bounce, and Showtime, starring Robert DeNiro and Eddie Murphy. In his spare time Harrison still plays soccer and has become addicted to golf. He has developed a great appreciation for the weather and lifestyle of Southern California, and spends as much time as possible outdoors with his college sweetheart and wife of more than 8 years, Gwen, and six-month-old baby, Joshua. |
